How to virtually connect with your classmates

We’re now firmly in the semester, marching towards midterms as professors pile on the work. During this time, it’s easy to feel alone, especially if you’re studying remotely. Here are some tips to connect with your classmates that work online or offline, because college is always better with a buddy (and studying alone sucks). 

Create a GroupMe for your class

GroupMe functions as a huge group chat, letting you ask questions about the homework, share study materials, and find study buddies all within the group you create. The best part? Join those college activities (yes, even virtual)

It may seem a bit awkward, but one of the easiest ways to find new friends (and fun) is to go to events sponsored by your college’s activity board. Universities across the country recognize the need for students to connect with each other, so many work with student leaders to bring you activities that are engaging and exciting. Everyone is working hard to bring fresh activities to a virtual setting, so before you delete the countless emails telling you about new virtual events, maybe check one out!

Connect on social media 

If you’re an avid Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook user, you already know how easy it is to connect with friends and family on social media. However, it’s just as easy to find people from your school to connect to as well! On most platforms, you can type in the name of the school (or the abbreviation, like “NYU”) and find tons of students to start talking with. Especially when meeting up in person isn’t an option, get to know your college community through their socials. It's 2020, nothing's weird anymore, so definitely reach out students and groups you'd be interested in. Who knows, you might find your new best friend on Facebook.
